Exciting Connections

PicturePhoto of Budapest
This last week has been so incredibly amazing! Lots of great things happening at work, home life is wonderful, the dogs are both well… with the exception of Tala getting car sick on the way to Belfair. Lol But the wonderful thing this post is mainly about is I’ve made another family connection to David and Ragnhild!

For those of you that don’t know I have the first eight parts to my David and Ragnhild story posted here in my blog. To obtain the others you need to sign up for my newsletter and then let me know so that I can send you the back versions of the story if you are wanting to follow its progress.

What is so exciting for me is this particular connection is to Ragnhild! Yes you read that correctly to Ragnhild! I am just over the moon about this. Mr. G and I have been exchanging different information about our mutual lady. He is related to her through his wife and they currently reside in Budapest too.

So those following the story will know who little Hugo is. Ragnhild’s little brother who comes to her defense against a very spoiled cousin (this still makes me wonder if younger brothers are better than the older ones lol). Well his first wife Elisabeth that you all will meet soon is the connection between our Lady Ragnhild and Mr. G’s wife’s family.

Mr. G has been so incredibly amazing in sending me links that tell more about Lady Ragnhild and it is all just giving me a deeper insight into her and her life. I am truly thankful for all the amazing individuals that I have met while on this path and can’t imagine how many more that I may yet have the joy of meeting.

My life is so incredibly blessed and just becomes more so when I get the opportunity to make the acquaintance of people like Mr. G. I wish each and every one of you a joyous day and may someone new come into your world and bring you joy and insight.

Brightest Blessing.

PictureSir David's childhood home.
As many of you know I am working on a manuscript that was gifted to me. It is the story of Sir David Callender Campbell and his wife Lady Ragnhild (Gregersen) I have been trying to come up with a title as I work on this amazing and true life story of two people whom I truly wish I could have known while they were still on this earth. I feel very honoured to be able to tell their story.

I am also very blessed with all the aide I have received in learning more about these two people and their amazing lives. I have even been gifted with a few family photos from extended family members, as these two had no living children to carry on their story.

I am thinking of sharing the story in a series of weekly blog posts. Perhaps as you all read along, between us all a proper title can be thought of. The posts will be in rough draft form as I am trying to get through the entire manuscript. A full edit will be done once everything has been converted over from a very old typed copy to the workable format. This is a long process and I want to share the story for it is truly amazing.

Please let me know below or via private message if you would like to start reading this story via weekly blog posts. Thank you.

I have to say that I am overwhelmed with the all the support that I have been receiving in regards to working on the story about Sir David Callender Campbell that his wife Lady Ragnhild had started many many years ago.

Not only has Baron James Stuart-Stevenson gifted me with this wonderful opportunity by giving me this manuscript but all the others that I am meeting along this journey.

I was contacted by a distant relative of Sir David’s named Kate and since then I have been in contact with another distant relative of his named Ruth. They have both supplied me with family information as well as old family photos. Both of these women are very generous with answering questions and supplying me with old family photos.

I have also had the pleasure of talking with the English gentleman, Alan, that took the photo of the brass plaque about Sir David on the Isle of Malta and he has offered to take some photos of Lady Ragnhild Campbell’s headstone when he goes back to Malta in October.

And then there is the wonderful and amazing Shirin of Ballymoney Museum in Ireland. This woman is a true blessing and I hope to one day get the pleasure of meeting her in person. She is helping me find so much information and she has placed me in contact with another person, Kathleen, who has supplied me photos of Sir David’s headstone as well as some newspaper clippings so now I know what Sir David looked like.

All of these amazing people that are doing so many things to help me learn more about Sir David and Lady Ragnhild I do not even know where to begin in regards to thanking them all.

I am still gathering information about these two amazing people and waiting to get the transcribed manuscript back from my friends at Armchair ePublishing so that I can go through and do the edits I know will need to be completed.

Joys of Scanning Things

15/9/2013

Oh the joys of scanning things... especially when they have to be done by hand.
Phase One
575 pages once all said and done for the manuscript about David Callender Campbell. Working on that while doing other things around the house as well made the scanning take three days before it was completed and ready for the next phase.
Phase Two
Placing 575 images into a Publisher file can be rather daunting. Having a program update bugger up your files makes things take even longer. Nothing like being on page 411 and attempting to get page 412 to load and it all go south. Had to get Microsoft Customer Service on the phone... yes I just heard you all groan at the thought of that. Trust me I was not happy especially when after being on hold for almost a half hour then getting placed on hold again for another ten minutes just to have them disconnect the call. Needless to say I did make my displeasure known when I called back the second time. Long story for this part of the saga short after granting remote access to a Microsoft Tech person for them to get into my computer two and half hours later all my Publisher files were working as they should EXCEPT for the one regarding this manuscript. lmao Yes you did read that correctly all but the extremely important one were able to be saved.
Phase Three
Start the Publisher file all over again lol. If you all have not yet tried to put that many pages into one file my recommendation is don't. At least not if you are wanting to save it as a PDF as well. Every time I attempted to save the 575 page Pub file as a PDF it timed out stating there was not enough room to complete the action... no matter where I was trying to save it.
Phase Four
Cut the Pub file in half and try saving again. YAY! Houston we have lift-off. So I now have three different Pub files one that is the 575 pages the other two are 288 and 287 pages. The two smaller ones both saved as PDF files. We are now ready for the next phase.
Phase Five
Give the flashdrive containing all these wonderful files to Karla and Tony Locke of Armchair ePublishing. Tony will then with all of his wonderful programs and machines turn the PDF's into Word Docs that I will be able to go in and edit as if I typed all these pages up myself. I know that I have said it before but I'm going to say it again. The people of Armchair ePublishing ROCK!!!! Karla I can't wait to see you this Saturday and hand off this little project to you and Tony.
Then
Phase Six
Once the PDF's are converted I will be going through the Word Doc page by page and looking at the physical pages of the manuscript for doing to the edits that will inevitably be there waiting for attention.

Sir David Campbell Manuscript Update

Finally got all the pages for the manuscript scanned and input into Publisher. Now cropping off the extra part of the image scans to make the text image larger. In reading the Epilogue that Lady Ragnhild wrote I found that a brass tablet was placed in memory of Sir David Callendar Campbell at the St. Andrews Church of Scotland in Valletta the capital of Malta. In searching for more information about the mentioned tablet I found the website 'Malta Family History'. A little more than a quarter of the way down the page I found where the author of the page talks about the St. Andrews Church. Scrolling a bit farther down one starts to see various images of the inside of the church. I finally found a image of the brass tablet that Lady Ragnhild Campbell had referenced. Below is a copy of image from the Malta Family History.

I just learned that a Mr. Alan Keighley is the gentleman that took the photo of this plaque.
