Holiday prepping & questions

PictureCranberry orange bread.
Trying to get the house ready for Xmas, get the cards filled out and sent, have not done that for years, and trying to get the things together that need to be mailed out to family. Sadly I am losing the battle between the full-time job and the husband that just needs to be allowed to relax on his days off things are not getting done as quickly as I would like. *sigh* Oh well a happy husband is far more important than any of the other items listed in my opinion. lol

I will be trying out a couple of new recipes this holiday season for some bread and a cake. One thing that I really miss making is my grandma’s sugar cookies. I don’t currently have a stand mixer and for this particular recipe one is really needed for mixing it together. One funny thing about this cookie recipe is that it should never be doubled even if you have a stand mixer. My mom and I learned this the hard way about 20 years ago… we all but killed her stand mixer and it’s one that they don’t make anymore. You know the type the ones that work through anything no matter what and keep going because they were made to keep working.

I was wondering do any of you have special recipes that you try to make every year or is there one that you wish you but for whatever reason can’t? I’m not asking for the recipe itself just the name if there is one. Is there a particular dish that always makes you smile when you see it laid out with all the other goodies for holiday consumption? It doesn’t have to be a treat it could be something like a ham, specialty mashed potatoes, yams candied or not.

There is one thing that I truly do not miss seeing and that is the jello with the shredded carrots or the jello with the fruit cocktail in it. Those are two dishes that I was  never able to wrap my head around as a kid and as an adult I still do not understand the fascination that some people have for them.
